The world is in a state of flux — the ongoing COVID-19 era has disrupted lives and has affected us in more ways than one. We have never seen such extensive impact in the fashion industry, let alone globally: from fashion creatives, garment makers to buyers, no one is spared by the widespread corona-effect. As a result, the fashion industry’s fate still hangs in a balance. So where do we go from here?
As we continue to come to terms with the effects of the pandemic and consider what life will look like post-coronavirus, the fashion industry has been forced to make some changes of its own. To accommodate this reality, A-JANE’s creative director Alice Jane Chang unveils the AMAP (As Me As Possible) fashion series which is comprised of four capsule collections, starting with the introduction of Opus 1.
“This art fashion series is a journey that explores the various abstract ideas and interpretations of the self and identity,” says Alice Jane, before adding, “With hints of Neue Musik elements, the designs pose conceptual questions to the ideas of conformity, perfection and confidence.”
According to Alice Jane, the idea for the AMAP collection was conceived during the peak of a nationwide lockdown. “It was crucial for me to pause and reflect, and to rethink my brand direction, and to sustain, especially during these unprecedented times,” she says.
Furthering the brand’s dedication to taking inspiration from the realm of music, the collection draws inspiration from the work of one of the most influential experimental music composers, John Cage. Entitled ‘As Slow As Possible’, he composed the piece in 1987 and it takes 639 years to perform, and it is being performed now at a small-town church in Germany with it scheduled to end in the year 2640. “This music piece is so strange, yet he was very bold to explore and compose this experimental piece,” she divulges, “For him, it was a period of discovery and exploration as he was composing this piece. Relating it back to the AMAP fashion series, it’s all about asking questions, reflection, exploration and discovery of the best version of yourself.”

The AMAP Opus 1 capsule consists of 12 looks that exudes a modernist, asymmetrical design and no-repetition concept with innovative cuts and silhouettes that embody Alice Jane’s Neue Musik abstract sound and art philosophy. From minimalistic tailored sleeveless shirts, structured shorts and asymmetrical skirts, to oversized tops and square shouldered dresses, these pieces are both cozy as they are stylish.
Show-stopping pieces come in the shape of wearable art pieces such as the onyx black ruffled cropped top, dramatic tulle skirt, graphic striped co-ords and ruffled neon orange crop top; all of which are inspired by the impacts of soundwaves; ideal for those who love to make a grand entrance or hosting a party at home.
The AMAP Opus 1 series also includes eye-catching geometric sandals and sleek slip-ons that are perfect for all occasions. On top of that, consider completing your daily ensemble with a selection of irresistible solid wood cuffs available within this fashion capsule.
With the majority of the world’s population working remotely from home, A-JANE also introduces its first home series collection by offering up a variety of printed pillow covers that will keep you looking stylish while you #WFH.
We asked Alice Jane what her hopes are for the future. “What I hope for is that people reflect and develop a newfound awareness and appreciation for themselves and the people around them, even those who you don’t know and those who are very different to you,” she said, “Let’s use this strange yet unique time we have to continue to reflect, explore, discover and accept what is beyond our usual comfort zone!”
